In this project, we had to research protein synthesis and the steps it took for our protein to go from DNA to protein. My group chose collagen, which is the most abundant protein in the human body.
Concepts
Protein: process in which cells generate new proteins
DNA: deoxyribonucleic acid; carries genetic information of the cell
RNA: carries instructions for DNA and protein synthesis
Codon: three nucleotides that together form a unit of genetic code on DNA or RNA
Central Dogma: DNA encodes RNA, RNA encodes protein
Nucleus: contains genetic material in a cell
Transcription: first step in protein synthesis; DNA encodes RNA
Translation: second step of protein synthesis; RNA encodes protein
Folding: third step of protein synthesis

Reflection
I really enjoyed this project. I learned a lot from it, although I did not stay on task a lot. I had a good friend of mine in my group, and we talked a lot together, especially since we had 2 other friends of ours at the group next to us. This caused one of my teammates to do a lot of the work, which I felt bad for I stepped up near the end of the project and I did a lot. The instructions were also very unclear. My group and I were stuck on some days, confused on what to do, so we barely got anything done, if any. I will continue to stay on task throughout my next project.
